Ubisoft appears to be tapping into nostalgia by contemplating remakes for not only one, but two beloved Assassin’s Creed games from the past. Recent insider reports suggest that Ubisoft is working on a remake of the cherished Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. This revelation comes as a surprise, considering Ubisoft's previous reluctance to remake titles from the Assassin’s Creed series and their decision to begin with the fourth mainline installment.
However, it seems that Black Flag may not be the sole classic Assassin’s Creed game set for a comeback. Insider Gaming suggests that Ubisoft has a series of projects related to Assassin’s Creed slated for release "by the end of the decade." Among these projects, two standout titles currently in development are Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red and Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe. These will be part of the new Assassin’s Creed Infinity hub. Additionally, there are reports of two remakes in progress set to see the light of day in the coming years. One of these remakes is internally referred to as “Obsidian,” pertaining to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, but details about the second remake remain undisclosed.
As for the identity of the second remake, there are a couple of strong contenders within the franchise’s catalogue. The first possibility is the original Assassin’s Creed, which debuted back in 2007. Despite its significance, the first game has surprisingly never received any remaster treatment. Given its enduring popularity, Ubisoft wouldn’t find it far-fetched to revisit this foundational title.
Another likely candidate for a remake is Assassin’s Creed 2, often celebrated as one of the finest entries in the series. Remaking AC2 would be logical given its status as a fan favorite and its crucial role in introducing the beloved character Ezio Auditore. Moreover, remaking Assassin’s Creed 2 could offer an opportunity to integrate elements from its sequels, Brotherhood and Revelations, potentially crafting an expansive gaming experience. However, these speculations remain purely conjectural for now.
